Lincoln Center Theater has produced over 200 plays and musicals at the Vivian Beaumont, Mitzi E. Newhouse, and Claire Tow Theaters at Lincoln Center and other theaters on and off-Broadway, as well as touring productions nationally and around the world. Job Position Summary
Lincoln Center Theater’s Learning English and Drama Project (LEAD) is an in-school residency program that uses theater to advance multilingual learners’ (MLLs) confidence in speaking English. At the heart of LEAD is the collaborative relationship between NYC public middle and high school teachers and LCT’s teaching artists. The LEAD Director is an educator, administrator, and artist, who is responsible for sustaining and strengthening the current program, as well as imagining, articulating, and enacting strategies for its future. The LEAD Director engages with all of the program’s stakeholders, ensuring the program runs smoothly and maximizing its impact.
This position reports to the Director of Education. The LEAD Director works collaboratively with the Director and Associate Director of Education and receives administrative support from an Education Assistant who works across all four of LCT’s Education programs.
Roles & Responsibilities
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Hire, train, coach, and support a faculty of 10-12 part-time LEAD teaching artists;
- Nurture and sustain strong relationships with the administration and relevant teachers at existing school partners, as well as cultivate relationships with new schools;
- Design and implement professional development for participating LEAD Project teachers, as well as teachers in NYC and beyond who wish to learn about using theater in the English as a New Language (ENL) classroom;
- Design and oversee LEAD teacher and student assessment, in collaboration with LCT’s Education staff and outside experts;
- Coordinate the staffing and logistics of LEAD residencies with schools and teaching artists;
- Support LCT’s Development staff in writing LEAD-related grant proposals, and in preparing reports and presentations to funders;
- Integrate LCT’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility values and commitments in all aspects of the administration of the LEAD Project, as well as in its pedagogy and curriculum;
- Document and report on program activities to LEAD stakeholders;
- Amplify the impact of the LEAD Project by presenting at relevant conferences, writing articles, and collaborating with other entities engaged in complementary work.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND EXPERIENCE
- Professional training in applied theater, drama based pedagogy, or other arts integrated teaching strategies, and at least five years of experience working as a theater teaching artist or classroom teacher.
- Significant professional expertise or training in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), preferably in K-12 school settings, and familiarity with current research in language acquisition.
- Three to five years of administrative leadership experience, preferably in a not-for-profit cultural institution.
- Significant experience providing coaching and/or designing professional development for teaching artists and teachers.
- Experience working in urban public schools, preferably in New York City.
- Familiarity with using technology to support in-person and remote instruction.
- Ability to work collaboratively with Education Department staff, as well as across other LCT departments.
Compensation:
This is a full-time, exempt, salaried position with a salary range of $77,500-$82,500. Lincoln Center Theater provides comprehensive benefits including: Paid Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance, 403(b) and Employer Match, and Paid Time Off.
