Notes in Motion Seeks Dance Teaching Artists

Notes in Motion Outreach Dance Theatre is seeking experienced Dance Teaching Artists for immediate placement in ongoing dance and movement residencies and after-school programs in the NYC Public Schools. 

About the position and Notes in Motion:

• Teaching artists will lead in-school or after-school dance residencies/programs in public, private, and charter schools throughout the five boroughs of NYC. 
• Rates start at $45/hr, plus paid curriculum development, meetings, and professional development.
• Since 2000, Notes in Motion has worked with thousands of students in public, private, and charter schools across the 5 boroughs. Currently we have partner schools in Manhattan, Bronx, Queens, and Brooklyn.
• Our programs typically occur within the school day (between 8am-3pm) or after school (2:30pm-6pm). Depending on artists’ interest and availability, we work to provide full day teaching opportunities when able.
• Our roster of teaching artists come with a variety of skills and practices and continue to work professionally in dance, theater, and performance.
• We provide 4 paid professional development trainings per year and 1:1 and group support throughout programs

Qualified candidates should have:

• at least 1-3 days per week available between 8am-3pm (in-school programs) and/or 2:30pm-6pm (after-school programs) for immediate placement 
• experience in a variety of dance forms such as ballet, modern, jazz, tap, ballroom, hip hop, styles of the Latin and African Diaspora, and/or creative dance training. Artists with other dance expertise not listed here are also encouraged to apply!
• a background in performance, improvisation, and/or choreography 
• experience teaching in NYC public schools (or similar settings) with elementary, middle, and/or high school populations
• Experience teaching theater, yoga, martial arts, and/or gymnastics a plus but not required

• brief sample LESSON PLAN detailing a successful dance lesson
  • Lesson should feature details for a creative dance class in any style of dance (45-60 minutes) and indicate what age/grade it is targeted for.

  • Interest in Notes in Motion and approach to teaching dance in public school settings
  • Brief summary of dance teaching expertise, such as “I have 4 years’ experience teaching ballet, jazz, tap in schools and studios and would be comfortable also teaching modern.”
  • Noting your current and upcoming availability based on the schedule above, such as “I am available Tuesdays, Thursdays, & Fridays between 8am-6pm.”
