Founded in 1911, Bronx House’s mission, as a community center, is to offer dynamic educational, health, recreational and cultural programs that are enriching and meaningful. Principal activities include the School for the Performing Arts, afterschool programs, summer day camp, PreK for All, sports and fitness, aquatics, a older adult center with a lunch program and a Naturally Occurring Retirement Community. Originally serving the Jewish community, our neighborhood is now home to a very diverse population spanning incomes, ethnicities and nationalities, including 47% Hispanic, 22% White, 25% African American, 33% immigrants, including a large Albanian population. Incomes are low, 20% below the poverty line and an additional 45% below the ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) level. People living at or below the ALICE threshold work, but their wages are not enough to cover the costs of food, housing, health care, transportation and child care. Bronx House serves over 8,000 residents annually.

SUMMARY
Bronx House is seeking a part-time Dance Instructor for our School for Performing Arts. The Dance Instructor is responsible for class curriculum and instruction, maintaining up-to-date progress notes on each participant, preparing students for recital performance. The Dance Instructor works within the guidelines, policies and mission of Bronx House and report to the Performing Arts Director. This position requires evening availability.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor in Dance or Education or several years of training and professional experience
• 2 years of experience working effectively with children and families.
• Must have experience within an education or community based setting.
• Possess the interpersonal skills to engage individuals and families from diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.
• Must possess a strong commitment to collaboration and effective teamwork within the organization

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Bachelor in Music or Music Education required, or several years of training and professional experience.
  ● Must be able to teach both private lessons and small group classes to children as young as 4 years old.
  ● Experience of 2 years in working effectively with children and families.
  ● Must have experience within an education or community-based setting.
  ● Possess the interpersonal skills to engage individuals and families from diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.
  ● Must possess a strong commitment to collaboration and effective teamwork within the organization.
