Job Position Summary

Hiring: Creative Art / Expression / Mixed Media Instructor for Weekend Youth Program

The Young Explorers Program at Lighthouse Guild (formerly known as the Saturday Youth Skills Program) is seeking a Creative Art / Expression / Mixed Media Instructor to join our collaborative team for the 2025–2026 school year.

The Young Explorers Program is a weekend enrichment and skill-building program designed for children ages 6–13 who are blind or visually impaired. Through engaging, hands-on activities, we help participants build confidence, self-expression, social-emotional learning, and independence—all in a fun, dynamic, and supportive environment. Each year, a cohort of 15–25 students attends throughout the school year, forming a close-knit community of learners and peers.

The program is held every other Saturday (for a total of 14 Saturdays) starting on October 25th and running until May 2 from 8:30am – 2:30pm (with breaks for holidays and school breaks).

We’re seeking a mature, thoughtful, and collaborative instructor who has a true passion for working with young people of diverse abilities. The ideal candidate brings:

  • Experience in group and individual instruction
  • The ability to communicate effectively with children with diverse needs, including those with vision loss or neurodivergence
  • Strength in lesson planning, preparation, and adaptability
  • Creativity, resourcefulness, and a supportive teaching style
  • Integrity, good judgment, and the ability to work well as part of a team

Roles & Responsibilities

Role Highlights:

  • Lead creative art/expressive activities for small rotating groups of students each session
  • Facilitate accessible and adapted arts projects such as but not limited to painting, collage, clay modeling, textile or fiber arts, mixed-media crafts, and other hands-on creative expression activities (with room for the instructor’s own ideas and expertise)
  • Attend all program dates as a core member of the Explorers instructional team
  • Support other activities when not leading your own sessions
  • Collaborate closely with the lead instructor and program manager to ensure a smooth, engaging experience for students
