Job Position Summary

New York City Center (NYCC) seeks a Community Producer for its upcoming Encores! Production of James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim’s Into the Woods. This Encores! production will involve community members from New York City schools and a Senior Center to collaborate with our professional Encores! Cast and Creative Team. Our Community Producer will serve as the primary liaison between the Producing Team, Education Department and our Community stakeholders.

Roles & Responsibilities

The Community Producer will be responsible for the following areas of work:

Participant Selection & Coordination

  • Identifying participants for the junior cast “doppelgangers” for 10 principal roles with local public schools and community arts organizations.
  • Communicating selection status to those chosen to participate including rehearsal schedule and involvement expectations.
  • Liaising with local senior center for senior cast “doppelgangers” for 10 principal roles.
  • Working with NYCC’s Education Department to coordinate School Chorus of 100 public school youth.

Documentation & Administration

  • Organizing contact information for all Community participants and sharing with Stage Management.
  • Collaborating with Community Engagement Consultant to create forms, schedules and process documents that facilitate participants’ participation and expectations. Preparing and tracking administration, including attendance, release forms, vaccination records, COVID compliance, etc. Collecting and filing all required documentation in an organized, usable system.
  • Preparing and distributing production updates as they relate to the Community cast and chorus.

Tech & Performance Week

  • Available to be on site and present for all rehearsals & performances involving Community participants.
  • Oversee participation of Community Cast and Chorus.
  • Coordinating schedules for all Community participants in partnership with Production and Stage Management.
  • Supervise Community Child Guardians and coordinate their schedules.
  • Coordinate space assignments for all Community participants.
  • Coordinate hospitality needs (snacks & meals) for Community Cast and Chorus.
  • Identify & coordinate transportation needs including reservations and all associated logistics (parking, communication with NYPD etc.).

Health & Safety

  • Working with the COVID-19 Safety team at New York City Center to ensure understanding and compliance with all COVID-19 protocols.
  • Ensuring Community Cast and Chorus holding spaces are safe and useable.

The Ideal candidiate:

  • Is a producer, stage manager, and or/community organizer with demonstrated experience bringing people together to accomplish projects
  • Excels at being organized, detail-oriented, self-motivated
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task and remain calm under pressure or deadlines
  • Extremely comfortable working with children
  • Has experience with theater management, administration, and/or production
  • Shares an interested in and/or has experience with education and/or community engagement
  • Loving musical theater is a helpful quality but not a pre-requisite

Compensation:

$6,000 project fee. Payments will be subject to applicable taxes and withholdings.

COVID-19:

  • All employees and workers at New York City Center are required to be vaccinated against COVID-19, and to provide proof of vaccination in accordance with requirements established by Producer. An individual is considered fully vaccinated two weeks after receiving a one-dose vaccine or both doses of a two-dose vaccine, approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) or the World Health Organization (WHO).
  • As of January 31st, 2022 all employees of New York City Center will be required to have the COVID booster (if they are eligible) in addition to their original vaccine.
  • Requests for medical and religious accommodation will be considered on a case-by-case basis and may be granted where they do not cause Producer undue hardship and/or pose a direct threat to the health and safety of the employee or others.
