EVERYBODY MOVE (EBM) Mission: EVERYBODY MOVE works to inspire and incite ambitious collective action fueled by the art of social dance. 

Built on our belief that social dance works as a powerful tool for social change, EVERY BODY MOVE (EBM) brings the artistic rigor of Camille A. Brown and Dancers’ beyond the stage and into communities. EBM works to cultivate the creative capacity of its participants through innovative workshops, summer intensives, artistic encounters, educational experiences, public actions, and celebrations for people of diverse abilities, identities, and ages.

Job Position Summary

This part-time position, at 24 hours a week, will provide assistance in areas central to the educational and social justice mission of CABD. The individual will offer critical administrative and organizational support to the multi-faceted Every Body Move (EBM) engagement platform, which encompasses programming for BIPOC adolescent girls, young adult men, and intergenerational families as well as annual convenings and professional development workshops. The program is expanding to include a Certification Program in our teaching methodology and curricula and is growing beyond the boroughs of New York City, to travel in advance of Company ‘s performances to engage audiences and to partner with the Company in the scheduling of small performances at historically Black colleges and universities (HBCU’s).

Internally, the Community Engagement Program Assistant will work closely with CABD’s Director of Community Engagement and Education (DCEE) and the Black Men Moving Program Coordinator (BMCC) and interface with the Company Manager, the Artistic Director, the Financial & Operations Manager, the Executive Director and the program’s teaching artists/community facilitators (TA’s). Externally, the Program Assistant will aid the DCEE in communications with a breadth of community-based organizations (e.g., public schools, neighborhood centers, vocational schools and universities, arts organizations, social welfare and civic groups). The position will also assist with the programs’ new initiatives, EBM Coast to Coast and the EBM Certification program.

The Program Assistant will support the efforts of the DCEE and BMCC in communications with current and potential new community partners and the scheduling of TAs to conduct workshops. The position will also assist with the programs’ new initiatives, EBM Coast to Coast and the EBM Certification program.

Roles & Responsibilities

Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Maintain accurate and detailed Every Body Move calendar of workshops, as well as CABD community and school partner calendars; assist DCEE and BMMC in scheduling of workshops and TAs as may be requested;
  • Track and log incoming workshop requests;
  • Maintain and further develop systems for collecting student and partner program evaluations and program statistics; provide program statistics for in-person EBM programs (numbers of workshops, type, locations, partnerships) and virtual programming to ED for grant reporting.
  • Ensure TA reflections are returned in a timely fashion and student/participant program evaluations are disseminated and retrieved in a timely fashion.
  • Assist DCEE and BMMC in scheduling meetings with community partners and potential partners as requested.
  • Compile and maintain reading lists and video links for the history of social dance and African diaspora dance for the EBM Certification program.
  • Support events such as The Gathering and the EBM Certification program by scheduling selected panelists, workshop leaders, lecturers and teachers, amassing bios and headshots, reserving space, arranging for sound or projections as needed, ordering food, preparing programs as may be needed. Share all schedules, bios, and headshots with CABD’s Social Media Manager.
  • Provide support to the DCEE and Company Manager in communicating with HBCU’s.
  • Provide support to the CABD Company Manager and DCEE for the EBM Coast to Coast program, communicate as may be requested by venue.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have a commitment to a work culture that respects and embraces diversity, inclusion, and equity.
  • Possess a passion for the performing arts (dance a plus), community engagement and social justice initiatives.
  • Have at least 1-3 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Be savvy in establishing and maintaining effective and collaborative working relationships with stakeholders from a variety of backgrounds, communities and organizations.
  • Be competent in using technology for communication, information-gathering, program delivery and/or reporting. Advanced user of MS Office (Word, Excel, Access & PowerPoint), and/or internet-based collaboration tools.
  • Thrive at working in an environment with multiple stakeholders and interests, managing multiple projects simultaneously with a demonstrated ability to meet deadlines.
  • Be able to work effectively within a team environment and handle various personality types and working styles (e.g., artists, community activists, executive leadership, school principals, students).
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Be detail oriented and able to successfully multitask.
  • Can demonstrate diplomatic communication skills, both verbal and written; and are able to handle sensitive and/or confidential information with tact.
  • Be adept at complex calendar and inbox management.
  • Bring joy, a sense of humor and positive energy to your work.
  • Possess a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
