About Our Organization
Community-Word Project’s (CWP) Teaching Artist Project, or TAP, is a collective of antiracist, diversely experienced, training, emerging and working arts educators and teaching artists who are looking for a supportive community to engage in a self-reflective, justice-oriented learning practice to enhance their teaching. TAP programs include a range of training offerings in New York City and beyond. We are currently accepting applications for our Teaching Artist Institute of Rochester (TAIR) program from Teaching Artists with substantial experience in facilitating professional development seminars and workshops.
Job Position Summary
The Teaching Artist Institute of Rochester (TAIR) is a multi-day intensive workshop for artists of any discipline to expand their teaching practice, explore social justice pedagogy, get resources on the business of teaching artistry, and connect with educators and cultural centers in Rochester as well as New York City.
Strong TAIR 2024 Co-Facilitator candidates will be 1) energetic and cheerful, 2) committed to working with a variety of demographics and communities, 3) committed to continually improving their teaching practice, 4) committed to the art of congenial collaboration and experimenting with other co-facilitators in order to develop quality and innovative professional development seminars/workshops. The Institute’s training curriculum is based on Community-Word Project’s Creative Process exploration methods, teaching practices and arts-in-education philosophy developed over the last 23 years.

Role End Date: January 2025
Requirements:
- Strong content knowledge in your artistic genre
- Commitment to serving young people in typically under-resourced communities
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- 2+ years experience in training Teaching Artists and/or facilitating professional development seminars and/or workshops.
- A strong knowledge of and commitment to teaching for social justice
- Preferred candidates are based in the Rochester, NY area
RATE: $125/hour for facilitation and $50/hour for planning time.

- Intensive Orientation
- Thursday, August 8, 2024: 5-7 PM (virtual)
- Tuesday, August 13, 2024: 5-7 PM (in-person)
- TAIR Intensive
- Workshop 1: Thursday October 24, 2024 (10-12pm, one hour break, 1-3pm)
- Workshop 2: Friday October 25, 2024 (10-12pm, one hour break, 1-3pm)
- Workshop 3: Saturday October 26, 2024 (12-2pm, one hour break, 3-5pm)
- TAIR Reflection & Celebration
- Friday, January 31st, 2025 TBD
Roles & Responsibilities
- Co-developing and co-facilitating a 3-day intensive teaching artist training in Rochester using the TAP methodology in the fall (October 24th-26th) for multi-disciplinary artists (i.e., creative writing and visual art)
- Co-developing and brainstorming professionalism and community building opportunities in the fall & spring for TAIR trainees, alums & the Rochester area at large (i.e workshops, job fairs and/or job information panels)
- Co-developing and co-facilitating specific professional developments in your area of expertise for a variety of Teaching Artists with different experience levels
- Monthly (August-November 2024) pre intensive (October 24-26th) planning sessions and post intensive debrief (December & January) with the TAP Co-Directors for building workshop curriculum and program experiences. (16 hours @ $50/hr)

- B) Responses to the following questions (In 1-2 paragraphs max for each response):
- 1. Describe your teaching experience. Be specific: age, grade, in-school/after-school, etc.
- 2. Please describe all professional development seminars/workshops you have facilitated.
- 3. What do you enjoy most about being a Teaching Artist and why?
- 4. Describe why providing professional development for Teaching Artists is important to you.
- 5. Describe an area of teaching you are an expert in (such as teaching for social justice, teaching in non-traditional settings, visual arts in the inclusive classroom, etc.)
- C) Sample of a professional development seminar/workshop of something you previously facilitated
- D) Artistic Sample: Please share original, creative work. If you work in multiple art forms, submit the discipline in which you work most frequently. Do not submit student work. Acceptable artistic samples (include year created):
- 3-4 pages of poetry or prose
- 3-4 images (JPG or PDF format)
- 3-4 production/performance programs (mark where name appears)
- Productions/performances list with descriptions, dates and venues
- CD/DVD
- 1-2 MP3 files
- 1-2 AVI or MPG video files (no WMV files)
