Job Position Summary
BKCM seeks an experienced arts or community-based organization administrator to coordinate the people and logistics for a weekly music program located at the new Chestnut Commons Community Center in Cypress Hills, Brooklyn. Programming will include 1-3 band classes and 20-40 private lessons on Saturdays, as well as a few early childhood classes and private lessons on weekdays, hours TBD. A two week, daily summer band program is planned for July of 2023, exact hours and dates TBD.
Qualifications
- Strong writing, speaking and listening skills
- Supportive team player and problem solver
- Bilingual in Spanish and English
- Administrative experience working with community organizations in Brooklyn’s large and diverse neighborhoods *Strong organizational abilities and experience working with Excel, Word and and Google platforms
- Experience with music/music education a plus but not required
- Strong preference for someone deeply familiar with Cypress Hills and the East New York Community
Roles & Responsibilities
Responsibilities will include:
- outreach to local schools, community and neighborhood organizations to publicize programs and recruit students *serving as liaison between BKCM and Chestnut Commons, to support logistics of registration and scheduling *supporting families through the registration process
- communicating regularly with families to address concerns and any issues that may arise
- supporting BKCM teaching artists to ensure scheduling, space and supply needs are met
- collaborating with lead teaching artist(s) to ensure program administration is supporting the best possible music education experience for students
- attending meetings with Music Partners Director, Chestnut Commons and BKCM administration
