Founded in 2016 by members of the Broadway community as a direct response to the nation’s pandemic of racism and police brutality, Broadway Advocacy Coalition (BAC) has since grown into a Tony Award-winning organization uniting artists with legal experts and community leaders to have a lasting impact on policy issues including criminal justice reform, education equity, and liberation within the theatrical industry.

This year’s theme is Reimagining Justice through Abolition and will specifically support Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian, and other artists of Color. Excitedly this fellowship will focus on criminal justice reform through use of narrative storytelling and artistry as we continuously strive to address and combat systemic racism. More specifically, embedded with our Theater of Change methodology, the fellowship will enable participants to blend artistry, law, policy, and community engagement, and produce narratives with powerful impact in policy spaces where change can happen. In the process all the participants will work with community members to amplify the power of their stories informed by legal and policy research.

Applications will be open to any narrative based theater and performance artists located in the United States. The fellowship will support 8 fellows over the course of four months and will culminate in a digital presentation of their work. The fellowship will begin January 2022 and last until May 2022.

Selected fellows will receive a $4,000 stipend and $2000 project support stipend.
