Actionplay is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing autistic, neurodivergent, and disabled teens and adults with equal access to the theatremaking process. Actionplay’s flagship program, AIMS, creates original musical theatre pieces about the unique interests and passions of our performers in a supportive space.
Job Position Summary
Actionplay, a neuroinclusive theatre nonprofit, is looking for an Assistant Music Director to work with an ensemble of autistic, neurodivergent, and disabled performers on a new original musical.
The Assistant Music Director will accompany rehearsals and lead music rehearsals throughout the process, working with individual actors as well as the entire ensemble to teach a score of original musical theatre songs composed by Actionplay’s Musical Director, Or Matias. Salary is $50/hour, or $150 per session, for a total of $5,850 for the nine months (counting two weeks of rehearsal leading into the performance weekend, not including possible additional Actionplay music performances throughout the year).
Roles & Responsibilities
Requirements:
- Accompanist with strong sight-reading skills
- Experience in musical theatre
- Available for 25 Sunday sessions, 12:30pm-2pm, October through May, plus a week of tech rehearsals leading up to a weekend of performances in mid-May
Preferred qualifications:
- A member of the autistic / neurodivergent / disabled community
- Classroom management skills – able to handle conflict while keeping rehearsal moving
- Licensed music therapist
- Experience working with beginner vocalists, high schoolers, and college-aged adults
