Mannes Prep is a part of The New School’s The College of Performing Arts. Through its three schools (Mannes School of Music, the School of Jazz & Contemporary Music and the School of Drama), preparatory program (Mannes Prep), and new innovate degrees (MA: Arts Management and Entrepreneurship and MM: Perform-Composer), the College of Performing Arts serves more than 1,000 degree-seeking students and 250 pre-college students.
Job Position Summary
The College of Performing Arts (CoPA) at The New School is seeking a highly qualified Assistant Director of Mannes Prep. Reporting to the Director of Mannes Prep, the Assistant Director is responsible for supporting students, families, and faculty, and collaborates with the Director to oversee the operations and administration of the Mannes Prep program. The Assistant Director works Tuesday through Saturday during the school year and Monday through Friday during summers; additionally, the position requires some evenings and extended hours on Saturdays.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in music administration;
- At least two years of arts administration and/or music education experience
- Understanding of K-12 Arts Education
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, close attention to detail, and strong organizational and time management abilities
- The ability to be self-directed, flexible, proactive, think creatively, and work as part of an administrative team.
- Comfortable working with children and families, and the ability to cultivate a strong rapport with a broad range of students, faculty, and staff
- Excellent project management skills, and the ability to manage multiple timelines and complex projects
- Fluent or able to develop fluency in The New School’s suite of applications including Google Suite, Microsoft Office, WorkDay, Tableau, Banner, and 25Live.
- Ability to adhere to university COVID-19 policy and requirements

Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree
- At least three years of arts administration and/or music education experience
- Advanced proficiency in data management
- Prior experience in academic affairs including but not limited to managing registration transactions, course building, curriculum development, faculty planning, and space scheduling
- Prior experience working with a unionized workforce in an educational setting
Work Mode:
This is a hybrid position, working a minimum of three days per week onsite.
Salary Range:
$60,000 – $68,000
Roles & Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
- Manage the day to day operations of Mannes Prep;
- Serve as an initial point of contact for students, families, prospective students, and faculty;
- Oversee recruitment of prospective students from inquiry through admission;
- Execute student registration, build courses in university systems, create schedules, and book teaching and rehearsal spaces;
- Produce and distribute Mannes Prep’s weekly newsletter;
- Develop and run special events such as masterclasses, large ensemble concerts, composition readings and concerts, classes for parents, and other events as needed;
- Resolve student issues and family concerns in keeping with institutional policies, escalating to Director when necessary;
- Oversee student workers in the promotion of events through established university channels including Splash, CoPA social media outlets, etc.;
- Contribute to the creation and assessment of curriculum;
- Collaborate in the development and deployment of new organizational structures and data systems to streamline processes;
- Remain competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses as directed by the supervisor;
- Additional responsibilities as assigned
