Job Position Summary

This is an excellent position for someone with a strong grasp of classroom management who loves working with young children in a collaborative and supportive environment, and is seeking a consistent but flexible part-time afternoon schedule. This is an assistant and sub position.

  • You are experienced in early childhood education (particularly 3K & PreK)
  • You are knowledgeable about the needs, challenges, and development of ages 3-7
  • You are a collaborative and flexible team member and an excellent communicator.
  • You are patient, positive, and passionate.
  • You are organized, self-motivated, and reliable.

If this list describes You, come work with our team! We are looking primarily for staff for a small afterschool program – at PS 307 near the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

You will be part of a team of 2-3 staff members each afternoon with a 1:5 teacher:student ratio.

NOTE: To be in compliance with NYC regulations for school sites, afterschool staff members must be vaccinated against COVID-19.

Experience:

  • Early childhood education: 2 years (Preferred)

License/Certification:

  • First Aid Certification (Preferred)
  • CPR Certification (Preferred)

Schedule and Availability

  • Number of days per week is flexible, as long as they are generally the same days each week. We are particularly looking for staff available Tuesdays, Thursdays and/or Fridays. Staff hours are 2-6pm.
  • Preference will be given to candidates available for the full school year, but we will consider candidates with single-semester availability.
  • The program schedule follows the NYC DOE School calendar, but will also provide full-day programming during a number of school closures, which are opportunities for additional work hours.

Roles & Responsibilities

As a Teacher

  • Maintain a welcoming, safe, healthy, organized and age-appropriate learning environment.
  • Ensure safety and well-being of students, and encourage their participation during outdoor and indoor play, mealtime, and enrichment class time.
  • Problem-solve with young children and manage behavior of groups and individual children, using language focused on “choice” and a positive growth mindset.
  • Collaborate with other afterschool teachers.
  • Interested, experienced and very skilled candidates may be offered the opportunity to take on some administrative responsibilities for the program as well, which is entirely optional but pays a higher rate and offers more work hours.

As an Employee

  • Attend and actively participate in all training sessions and scheduled meetings.
  • Follow procedures and meet expectations as outlined in the Bitty City Staff Handbook and during training and orientation.
  • Communicate clearly with management.
  • Document work hours and submit paperwork on time.
