About Our Organization

The Calpulli Mexican Dance Company (hereafter Calpulli or organization) is a premiere arts organization based in New York City that tours domestically and internationally with a message of honoring and celebrating Mexican people and our stories. Calpulli was founded in 2003 with the mission of celebrating the Mexican community through dance including live music. To this end, the organization produces performances via its international touring company, designs arts-in-education experiences for all ages, and leads community outreach activities in the northeastern USA.

Calpulli offers an array of programming to educators allowing access to the company’s expertise in Mexican traditional dance, music, garment-making, and culture. Projects include in-person and virtual lecture-demonstrations, workshops, and residencies. Calpulli’s arts-in-education projects add value to educational experiences by complimenting curriculum with arts-based interactive, engaging content.

Job Position Summary

The Arts-in-Education Consultant (“Consultant”) position is an independent contractor position, pivotal to the further development of Calpulli’s Arts-in-Education programs. The role will involve proposing, designing, and executing on plans that meet arts in education needs for the organization as specifically defined in our strategic plan. Collaborating with the Arts-in-Education Director, Educational Projects Manager and Teaching Artists, the Consultant will design the overall architecture of interactive and engaging curriculum and then lead the documentation of the curriculum for future training and delivery to students. The curriculum will be focused on Calpulli’s educational offerings in Mexican history, culture and folklorico dance.

Roles & Responsibilities

SPECIFIC GOALS AND DELIVERABLES

  • Document Calpulli’s curriculum to support the development of teaching artists with a systematic approach to training in both proprietary curriculum, and other educational resources.
  • Design evaluation tools for each educational program type that target those consumers and provide actionable data for program development into subsequent years, ensuring a wide range of voices are heard.
  • Create qualitative and financial metrics to assess all education programming.
  • Engage community stakeholders inviting the participation of arts partners, parents, students, and schools into planning for our education programs.

ADDITIONAL EXPECTATIONS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Success in this position will depend upon the following skills, traits, and requirements:

  • Commitment to the mission and vision of Calpulli Mexican Dance Company
  • A bachelor’s degree or higher in education
  • Experience and familiarity with the NYC Department of Education Blueprint for Education
  • Experience in the non-profit sector, preferably within dance and arts education
  • Relevant performing arts experience
  • Knowledge or interest in dance, Mexican culture, and Mexican folk dance traditions
