About Our Organization
The Art Deco Society of New York is a non-profit organization that advocates for the appreciation, understanding, celebration, documentation, and preservation of Art Deco architecture, design, and culture in New York and around the world. While most New Yorkers are familiar with the Art Deco icons such as the Empire State and Chrysler buildings, there are wonderful examples of Art Deco in all the boroughs.
We offer a variety of programs for students in K-12 classes to educate and inspire them about the city’s rich architectural heritage.
Job Position Summary
The Art Deco Society of New York (ADSNY) seeks an experienced, creative part time Arts Instructor to help New York City students explore the art, design and architecture in their city and their neighborhoods that makes the city so special and incorporate their learnings in their own creative artwork in a variety of media.
Roles & Responsibilities
The ideal candidate is committed to providing outstanding classroom instruction, creatively utilizing an established set of curricula materials, and providing high quality lessons. The candidate should be passionate about Art and design history and techniques and highly creative and will
- Exhibit strong ability to build connections with children and teens
- Work to build children’s’/teens’ visual eye and artistic mind
- Have a cooperative team spirit, integrity, and solid work ethic
- Be comfortable helping children/teens strive for excellence with warmth, encouragement and guidance
- Have the skills to pace the instruction to complete the class in the assigned time frame.
Responsibilities:
- Work in collaboration with the classroom teacher to support the continuity of ongoing projects/workshops in the classroom and the community
- Facilitate student success by providing appropriate expectations and maintain a safe environment conducive to learning.
- Is able to set up the lesson, teach the class, and provide follow up as needed.
- Ability to attend occasional administrative meetings
- Expose children to a diversity of materials and techniques within class medium taught.
- Encourages student creations in a variety of media
- Develops students’ artistic eye
- Periodically Document student experiences and progress
- Create specialized art objectives and goals based on the individuated needs of the class students.
Requirements:
- Must have flexible schedule to accommodate school/teacher scheduling needs
- Participate in training meetings.
- Prior Classroom experience with elementary, middle, and high school age students
