Founded In 1977, Marquis Studios is a multi-disciplinary organization providing arts-in education services to over 140 New York City public schools. Through strong collaborative partnerships we provide a full spectrum of multicultural residencies where students explore the visual and performing arts. Marquis Studios strives to provide quality programs and high impact arts opportunities while creating learning environments that strengthen critical thinking and creative skills.

Marquis Studios is currently seeking teaching assistants to provide additional support in our After-school programs throughout all 5 boroughs of New York City. The teaching assistant program aims to match applicants with arts disciplines of their interest while providing meaningful teaching experiences. The ideal candidate will have a passion for arts education and experience working with students to enhance their knowledge of the arts. We work with schools in all five boroughs so candidates from all over the New York City Metropolitan Area are encouraged to apply!

About our Programs:

Marquis Studios’ after-school programs take place one day a week for 10 weeks and run on a trimester basis throughout the school year: October through December, January through March, and April through June. Teaching assistants are assigned to multiple weekly residencies and assigned to new residencies each trimester.

Job Position Summary

Roles & Responsibilities

Responsibilities Include:

  • Availability for a minimum of two afternoons, to assist in after-school programs conducted during 1.5 – 2-hour blocks, between 2:00pm – 6:00pm; Monday through Friday.
  • Commitment to scheduled residencies for the duration of the program cycle.
  • Aiding the lead teaching artist in a class of up to 25 children in grades Pre-K to 12.
  • Work with the teaching artist to establish a healthy, safe, and fun learning environment and serve as a positive role model.
  • Assisting with classroom management while monitoring students when they are working in separate groups or outside of the designated residency space.
  • Arrive at the site 15 minutes before class begins to help the lead artist prepare. Including but not limited to: unlocking classroom doors, gathering necessary materials, setting up equipment and/or organizing the space.
  • Assist in cleaning up after residency.
  • Complete daily record keeping duties as requested.
  • Take a leadership role during emergency/crisis situations if needed.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of two years of college education, currently enrolled in a 4-year program or have already received a degree in an educational or arts related field.
  • Experience working with youth of various ages in any capacity.
  • Interest in arts education, be a practicing artist, art educator, or art student.
  • Must be interested and dedicated to improving communities through arts education and exploration.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to interact with youth, teachers, and school administrators.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, follow directions, and communicate effectively.
  • Willingness to work outside of your main artistic discipline.
  • Flexibility to travel to schools that are often neglected due to their location (having a car is a major plus)!
