The Institute for Anti-Racist Education is a 501(c)(3) focused on transforming youth educational experiences through Abolitionist Social Emotional Learning practices. Co-Founded by Ashley Lipscomb (CEO) & Brittany Spatz (COO) July 2, 2020, The Institute operates in community with schools, districts, organizations, and corporations in order to disrupt carceral policies that disproportionately affect the thriving of Black & Indigenous children, queer students, children with disabilities, children of the global majority, immigrant youth, and communities impacted by poverty. Together, we are working toward fostering more loving and inclusive schools that freedom dream new possibilities, and create the world every student deserves.
Supporting our freedom dreaming, we have graciously been funded to create The Create Freedom Learning Model (CFLM). The CFLM is an instructional design tool that teaches students to think critically about the most pressing problems their communities, country, and world are facing. This model will empower them with the content, skills, resources, networks, and community partnerships needed for them to energize their imaginations and act to create change. Critical to the mission, CFLM includes a cross-disciplinary curriculum that centers abolitionist SEL and transformative practices. In order to bring life to this vision, we need the support of content experts. We are seeking educators and curriculum developers to become a part of our coalition of abolitionist, anti-racist, culturally and historically responsive collaborators who will engage in the work of freedom dreaming. We envision this curriculum as a pedagogical tool that will increase relationship building, center healing, critical care, transformative dialogue by modeling joy, vulnerability, and community for all students.
This curriculum will be piloted in New Jersey and will be developed considering the NJ context.
