Every student in New York City stands to lose arts programming if the $41M from stimulus funding is not made whole. Between 2020 and 2023, public schools across the five boroughs lost 425 full-time certified arts teachers – that means roughly 1 in 7 school children do not have a full time arts teacher.
We know that arts education nurtures social-emotional wellness, improves academic outcomes in the classroom, prepares students to enter the workforce, and increases parent involvement and attendance rates. Yet today these opportunities are available to only some of NYC’s 1 million students.
This rally will feature:
- Kimberly Olsen, Executive Director, NYC Arts in Education Roundtable
- Mario Asaro, President/Executive Chair, NYC Art Teachers Association/UFT
- Juan Carlos Salinas, Director of Education, Jamaica Center for Arts & Learning
- Heather Lanza, Director of Education, Waterwell
- NYC Public School students and graduates.
Attend the virtual rally and join us in saying that “It Starts With the Arts!”
