About the Garrison Institute

The Garrison Institute was founded in 2003 as a non-profit, non-sectarian organization exploring the intersection of contemplation and engaged action in the world. It is located in Garrison, New York in a former Capuchin monastery originally build in 1932 and overlooking the Hudson River. Facilities include a variety of meeting and break-out rooms, a non-denominational meditation hall, a wood-paneled dining hall, and more. Black Women’s Wellness Retreat participants will be housed in single dorm-style rooms with access to shared bathroom spaces. Please note, the Garrison Institute does not have an onsite shop or cafe.

In addition, the Garrison Institute sits on a 95-acre property, boasting a tranquil, park-like setting, gardens, a gazebo on a bluff by the river, and many walking paths. The property is connected to the Hudson River trail system and the Appalachian Trail. Please note, not all trails surrounding the Institute are accessible: the gazebo and all trails towards the Hudson require going down a long series of stone steps. The park, gardens, and labyrinth are accessible via van ride provided by staff; otherwise, they require 5-6 steps to access. To learn more, you can visit the Garrison Institute website here.
