Join us for this IN-PERSON conversation moderated by David King on the progress made towards equity in access to sequential arts education alongside the lessons learned and future of arts in our schools. Featuring a student performance by the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music. Coffee and tea will be made available via The Center for Fiction Café-Bar.

About David C. Banks
David C. Banks is Chancellor of the New York City Department of Education, the largest school system in the nation. Appointed on January 1, 2022, he is the former President and CEO of the Eagle Academy Foundation, and the founding principal of The Eagle Academy for Young Men, the first school in a network of innovative all-boys public schools in New York City and Newark, N.J.
Banks is a lifelong New Yorker, born in Brooklyn, and proud graduate of New York City public schools, attending P.S. 161 in Brooklyn and Hillcrest High School in Queens. After a year working as a school safety officer, he began his first teaching job at P.S. 167 in his childhood neighborhood on Eastern Parkway. From there, he went on to become a founding principal at the Bronx School for Law, Government and Justice, and later at the Eagle Academy for Young Men.

About the Center for Fiction
The Center for Fiction is the only nonprofit literary organization in the U.S. solely dedicated to celebrating fiction, and they work every day to connect readers and writers. In February 2019, they opened the doors to their new building in Downtown Brooklyn, creating a home for NYC’s literary community, and in July 2019 they launched a new website to reach readers and writers around the globe.
The Center is known for their special literary events, grants and workshops to support emerging writers, reading groups, and so much more.
