NEW YORK, NY – The New York City Arts in Education Roundtable was recently awarded a grant award totaling $100,000 from the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) to support the recovery of the nonprofit arts and culture sector. Following New York State’s $105 million investment in the arts for FY2022, NYSCA has awarded more than $80 million since June 2021. This award comes in addition to NYSCA’s Round Two support of the Roundtable via the Council on the Arts’ State Community Regrant Program, intended to increase access to vital arts funding and champion creativity in local communities. The Round Two Award will support the launch of the New York State Teaching Artist Mentorship Program. This new program seeks to help mid-career teaching artists develop the networks, skills, and increased capacities necessary to support career advancement and sustainability.

The New York City Arts in Education Roundtable’s programs serve more than 10,000 member and non-member teaching artists, educators and cultural workers to build skills and career capacity and develop and learn new population- or outcome-specific strategies. Via professional development, regranting, and community-led spaces, the Roundtable supports a diverse range of practitioners—better equipping them to do their best work, helping New York students succeed in and through the arts.
Launching January 2022, the Roundtable’s New York State Teaching Artist Mentorship Program will pair 14 Teaching Artists from communities historically underrepresented in the arts education field with a mentor educator or arts leader. Selected Teaching Artists will be given $2,200 for their participation and will have access to one-to-one mentoring, professional development workshops, and arts education organizations in the field.
