David King is a passionate advocate for prolonged investment in the arts and education, and he is fundamentally committed to sustaining a thriving cultural sector in New York City and beyond. He is an interdisciplinary artist, educator, and facilitator whose purpose is rooted in connecting people to opportunities and resources for learning, creative expression, and civic engagement. At large, his interests lie in social infrastructure frameworks that lead to a positive, long-lasting impact on New Yorkers’ quality of life. With a career in the performing arts, event curation, and holistic youth development, he believes in the efficacy of strategic visioning processes as well as methodologies for creating accessible, intergenerational, culturally competent programming.
David is a leader with over 15 years of management experience and over a decade of artistic direction in New York City’s cultural sector. He is the Director of Education at The Apollo and the former Program Director of School & Community Partnerships at Community-Word Project (CWP). He is Vice Chair of the Board of Directors at the NYC Arts in Education Roundtable and a member of Imagining America’s National Advisory Board. He is also a working group member of Culture@3—a space for leaders of NYC’s cultural institutions to connect and share resources and support.
He has served as a panelist for The 2025 Rainin Arts Fellowship (United States Artists), a reader for the 2024 A.R.T./New York Creative Opportunity Fund (NYSCA), a jurist for the 2024 Creative Learning program (LMCC), and a recurring panelist for the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs (DCLA) Cultural Development Fund.
David is an alum of the New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) 2024 Incubator for Executive Leaders of Color. He was a member of Dance/NYC’s 2023-24 Dance. Workforce. Resilience. (DWR) Initiative Advisory Group. He is a 2019 Innovative Cultural Advocacy Fellow with The Caribbean Cultural Center African Diaspora Institute (CCCADI) and Co-founder of The Seven Collective, a former NYC-based theatre company and artist collective. He earned a B.A. in Theatre from The City College of New York (CUNY) and appreciates those who contribute to the process.
