Congratulations to Tom Finkelpearl, the new commissioner of the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs. A friend of the Roundtable and speaker at our Annual Meeting last year, Tom is recognized as an advocate for inclusiveness and accessibility of the arts. During his twelve-year tenure at the Queens Museum – a Roundtable member organization – he has focused on building connections with the widely diverse community of Queens while steering a $68 million renovation aimed to make the museum more inviting to the neighborhood.
Principles that Tom shares with Mayor de Blasio include making art available to every child and improving arts education in public schools, values that are echoed by the Roundtable and our members. We look forward to working with the new commissioner in the coming months and years. Congratulations, Tom!
