Over fifty people attended the “New Year’s ‘TA’s Rock’ Networking Event,” which took place at the end of January at the Bourbon Street Bar and Grille. As this light-hearted event always does, the evening provided an opportunity for both social and professional networking and celebration for teaching artists, young administrators and freelance artists interested in the Arts in Education field.
As this event was geared towards engagement of teaching artist and freelancers, it was – as usual – filled with fun activities including a terrific free raffle and plentiful networking opportunities (…as well as complimentary appetizers and an open bar!).
To get the evening started, board members and committee chairs spoke to the crowd about the Roundtable’s functions, goals and upcoming conferences and events. Roundtable Co-chair Kati Koerner introduced Jenny Clarke as the new Roundtable Managing Director and informed guests of upcoming events including the “Inclusion in the Arts Classroom” workshop, the Arts Ed Tech workshop and the Face to Face conference; TA Affairs Committee Co-chair Sobha Kavanakudiyil prompted everyone to live-tweet the event and to participate in the raffle; and Membership Committee Member Katie Miller reminded people that $40 individual membership to the Roundtable includes $10 off the price of Face to Face, as well as free admission to members-only events and access to the Roundtable website.
Fascinating conversations abounded throughout the evening, and thanks to amazing donations from TDF, Making Books Sing, The New Vic, Lincoln Center, The Roundabout, BAM, Symphony Space, The Joyce, Carnegie Hall, Kinky Boots, and Starbucks (among others), the raffle and the event at large were a huge success. By the end of the evening, many attendees had expressed interest in becoming individual and/or organizational members of the Roundtable, and it seemed like almost everyone present went home with a souvenir from what was once again a truly fun, feisty and fabulous event.
