About the Job
Urban Arts Partnership is seeking Teaching Artists who are highly-motivated, organized, and supportive with a minimum of 2 years’ experience working with inner city youth in grades K-12 in a public school setting with experience teaching music such as : Production, Percussion, Chorus, Live Instruments, Guitar, and/or bucket drums.
Key Skills, Abilities and Experience:
- Comprehensive experience developing and implementing arts education programs.
- Familiarity with the New York arts education community and the nonprofit sector.
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience working with inner city youth in grades K-12.
- Background and interest in the arts as a professional.
- A creative and innovative approach to program development.
- Exceptional writing, editorial, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to multi-task and troubleshoot.
- A dedicated team player who is able to take initiative and work independently.
- Familiarity with the NY State Standards for Visual & Performing Arts.
- Familiarity with the Common Core Standards.
- Experience with Arts Integration is preferred.
- Experience in working with English language learners and students with disabilities.
- Bilingual preferred but not required.
- Required to travel within Queens and/or Manhattan. Willingness to travel within The Bronx & Brooklyn preferred but not mandatory.
- Commit to teaching all assigned sessions within the school year (September – June).
- Develop curricula for and teach arts programs that are informed by Urban Arts Partnership’s methodology and city and state academic and arts standards.
- Submit weekly Lesson Plans and reflections.
- Submit student assessment reports twice per year.
- Schedule and complete weekly co-planning meetings with co-teachers (for Integration programs).
- Serve as a positive role model and uphold professional behavior.
- Ensure the physical and emotional safety of children in accordance with program policies and procedures.
- Collaborate constructively with coworkers, and communicate regularly with supervisory staff.
- Lead grade specific group instruction in accordance with the curriculum.
- Participate in all Urban Arts Partnership meetings and staff development activities.
- Assist in planning major projects and culminating events.
- Follow and respect the school culture, protocol, and policies.
- Make Urban Arts visible within the school. Actively exhibit student artwork outside of the classroom.
- Create end of semester and end of year presentations of student work, involving parents when possible.
- Attend to administrative duties such as timesheet submission, attendance collection and entry, and end of residency reports.
- Provide administrative documentation as needed and committed to meeting all deadlines
- Arrives to classes and meetings on time
