High School Teacher (Performing Arts)
Broome Street Academy Charter High School



  • Develop lesson plans that ensure the mastery of state learning standards and any additional specific learning standards set forth by the Academy
  • Differentiate daily lessons and continuously refine teaching methodologies to meet the needs of all students
  • Ensure students attain the achievement goals of the Academy’s accountability plan
  • Strike a balance between “direct instruction” and “project based learning”
  • Maintain and enhance expertise in a specified content area
  • Participate in all required school professional development activities
  • Coordinate lesson plans with other teachers and reinforce student knowledge on an interdisciplinary basis
  • Observe other teachers and provide constructive feedback on teaching practice
  • Provide direct and indirect instruction to large and small student groups
  • Prepare students adequately for all required assessments
  • Evaluate students’ progress and serve as advisors
  • Maintain individual achievement plans (IAPs) for all students in their advisory groups
  • Maintain constant communication and coordination between various service providers for their advisory groups and other students in classes they teach
  • Actively participate in case conferences with service providers
  • Carry out the necessary functions to maintain a visually stimulating an welcoming classroom environment
  • Engage in effective and appropriate classroom management



  • Master’s degree and NYS Teacher certification in a relevant subject area (unless covered under the certification exemptions of the NYS Charter School Law)
  • Minimum of three years of teaching experience and demonstrated experience working with a vulnerable student population such as young people from high poverty communities or in marginalized housing situations
  • Dual-certification and/or experience with Special Education highly preferred
  • Demonstrated expertise in subject area as shown by significant undergraduate or graduate coursework in content area
  • Ability to engage the interest of students, meet student achievement goals and be held accountable for student results
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate tests and other measurements of achievement
  • Must be flexible and resilient in the face of very intense and heavy work situations
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse students, including those with special needs and English Language Learners
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with and engage the participation of parents and other student care-givers
  • Work effectively as a team member


Hours: Full time

Position will end on June 28, 2019
