The Drawing Center


The Drawing Center seeks a Curatorial Assistant to assist the Chief Curator and Executive Director with the museum’s exhibition program and general curatorial office management. The Curatorial Assistant will work on museum exhibitions as assigned (approximately four to six per year). Exhibitions take place in the museum’s Main Gallery, Drawing Room, and The Lab, as well as the Lab Corridor and Stairwell project spaces, and traveling exhibitions. For each exhibition assigned, the Curatorial Assistant works with the exhibition curator on preliminary research, including studio, gallery, archive, and library visits; manages checklists and loans with the museum’s Registrar; assists with production management for the exhibition catalogue; and writes and/or proofreads exhibition ephemera, such as press releases and didactic labels.
The Curatorial Assistant will also be responsible for public programs that take place in tandem with each exhibition, including set up and take down of equipment and liaising with program participants. As part of general curatorial responsibilities, the Curatorial Assistant will assemble relevant materials pertaining to exhibitions and public programs for Curatorial Department meetings and meetings with the Program Committee and Board. The Curatorial Assistant will act as the first point of contact for public inquiries about exhibitions and artwork submissions. He or she will also work closely with the museum’s interns.
In addition, the Curatorial Assistant will manage the museum’s online initiatives, including The Drawing Center blog ‘The Bottom Line.’ Qualified candidates will have, at minimum, a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, and ideally a master’s degree; one to two years of administrative experience in a comparable environment; strong writing, research, and communication skills; general knowledge of computer software (such as Photoshop and Excel); and experience with database management applications.
