LEVEL OF LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY

Lenox Hill Neighborhood House, widely recognized as one of New York’s premier human services providers, is a 123-year-old settlement house that provides an extensive array of effective and integrated services—social, educational, legal, health, housing, mental health, nutritional and fitness—which significantly improve the lives of 15,000 people in need each year, ages 3 to 103, on the East Side of Manhattan. Our clients include older adults, homeless and formerly homeless adults, children and families, recent immigrants, disabled persons, adult learners and more. For more information on Lenox Hill Neighborhood House, please visit our website at www.lenoxhill.org.

The Visual and Performing Arts department integrates art performance and art education into our programs for thousands of New Yorkers in need, including our Early Childhood Center, RealArts After School Program and Summer Camp, two senior centers, day program for older adults with dementia or related disorders, and housing and homeless services. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about arts education, social justice and community-based learning in a collaborative inter-disciplinary organization.

Lenox Hill Neighborhood House will provide:

  • Studio space for an artist for three weeks beginning August 19th. The space is equipped with three tables, Central AC, sink and Wi-Fi. The space is sunny and bright and overlooks our Environmental Playscape and Green Roof.
  • Access to the studio will be available seven days a week from 9am-8pm.
  • The Artist in Residence will be able to store his/her materials and projects in the studio space for the duration of the residency. Thus, we require that the Artist work in a 2-Dimensional medium (collage, drawing, painting with non-oil based or encaustic based pigments) in order to accommodate for storage space.
  • On-site space for a solo show during the month of December.

Requirements:

  • Upon completion of the residency, the Artist will lead a Visiting Artist Lecture during the fall programming season.
  • Upon completion of the residency, the Artist will lead one weekly 90-minute Master Class for our senior clients during their 8 week fall session. This class can be conducted in any two dimensional studio-based medium.
  •  We require our artists to work respectfully in our studio space. This includes being considerate of other programing occurring in the building.
  • All art material expenses will be paid for by the artist.
